Austin, Texas

People have been telling me for years that I needed to check out Austin because it was my kind of city. Everyone was right because I looooved it! Like Dallas, it was pretty spread out so I was glad that we had a car! We spent 4 days there and definitely didn't get to do everything we wanted to so we're already planning a trip back!

Eat:

  1. Kerbey Lane Cafe - My tour guide at UT Law told me this was an Austin Institution that we had to visit. They had good vegan options and Ty liked his food too! I had a vegan platter - the tofu scramble was good and the pumpkin pancakes were the best pancakes I have EVER had! We went for brunch but they serve breakfast all day!

  2. Aba - Make a reservation early if you want to go here! Trendy Mediterranean restaurant off of south Congress that was really good! Get the cauliflower kebabs, Falafel (no tzatziki), and hummus!

  3. Snooze, an A.M. Eatery - Really good coffee and good breakfast! I had a honey oat milk latte which was the best coffee I had on the trip and a good tofu scramble!

  4. Sushi Zushi - Good sushi downtown! I liked my miso soup and vegetable roll. The atmosphere is nice and the house salad was huge - the ginger dressing was a little nutty which I liked!

  5. Spartan Pizza - Good pizza with vegan cheese!

  6. Voodoo Doughnuts - Everyone told us we had to go here (another Austin institution) and I am glad we did! Its pink and cute and has vegan doughnuts. I liked the maple bar a lot. We also got the dirty bastard doughnut which was good but a little overwhelming lol

Drink:

  1. P6 the Line - This bar has an incredible view of congress and does a good happy hour! The drinks are good and the service was incredible. Our waiter was super sweet and gave us tons of recommendations of things to do while in Austin. They sent out free apps for my birthday - the hummus is so good and the pita bread was some of the best I've ever had.

  2. Zanzabar - Another rooftop bar with a good view! It is jungle themed which is super cute. Good drinks and a good atmosphere!

  3. Lazarus Brewing - I liked this brewery because they had hard kombucha and a cool atmosphere!

  4. Austin East Cider - I loooove ciders so we got a couple flights. These weren't as good as Bold Rock (sorry) but I really liked the hot honey and the texas honey!

  5. Easy Tiger - Cool place for a drink right on South Congress. I had a really good Bloody Mary and the courtyard was a good place to watch football, listen to live music and rest a little from walking a ton.

Coffee:

  1. Try Hard Coffee - This was definitely the "keep Austin weird" vibe. Rock music and good coffee.

  2. The Salty Donut - Cute place to stop for a latte on South Congress. They had vegan baked goods too which is always nice to see!

  3. Tiny Grocer - Cute little window off of South Congress - I had a good matcha latte!

To Do:

  1. South Congress Street Shopping - I loved South Congress because there was so much going on. They have an alo yoga store so I was basically in heaven. We also went in Neighborhood Goods which had a lot of cool stuff!

  2. Boardwalk - This is a great place to walk - it goes nine miles down the river and has awesome views of the city.

  3. Zilker Park - This is where Austin City Limits (music festival) is, so we definitely wanted to check it out. It's a huge really nice park with a cool view of the city and a lot of dogs. We hung out here one afternoon for some sun and some rest.

  4. Texas Farmer's Market at Mueller - This is considered the best farmer's market in Austin and definitely worth going to if you are in Austin on a Sunday morning! They have a lot of food vendors so its a good place to eat - I had some yummy vegan pierogis! Buddha's Brew Kombucha and Floreli's hummus were my favorite booths.

  5. Blue Starlite Mini Urban Drive in - Cute little drive in and a nice thing to do at night if you don't want to go out.

  6. Bats at South Congress Bridge - Ty was really set on seeing this and I thought it sounded cool. Apparently hundreds of bats fly out from under the bridge at dusk every night. We went to see them and unfortunately got so caught up in talking to the people around us that we missed seeing the bats. Plenty of people showed us their videos of them though and it looked cool! We are planning on actually seeing them next time we are in Austin.

  7. Lake Travis - Beautiful lake about 45 minutes outside of Austin. We went to walk, do some yoga, and read.

  8. Check out local art events! - Austin seems to always have something going on - we were there during the Travis Heights Art Walk which was one of my favorite things we did. Get on Facebook or ask around to see what's going on!
