The Telluride Travel Guide

If you're planning on heading out to Telluride for a winter trip (or even a summer one!) check out all my favorite spots below! If you weren't planning a trip, then maybe you'll start thinking about it :)

I spent the winter in Telluride working for the resort as a seasonal worker - this was an awesome experience that I would I highly recommend! Reach out to me if you have any questions about seasonal work!

Restaurants:

  1. WoodEar - Awesome cocktails and so many vegan options! I like the Mushroom Fest Ramen Bowl and tgihe Sticky Tofu Rice Bowl!

  2. Siam Talay - Ty and I went here all the time because its soooo good! I like the Thai-tini and green curry with steamed tofu!

  3. Rustico - Best bread in Telluride and a few good pastas with no meat!

  4. Brown Dog - Vegan cheese and vegan pepperoni! Best pizza in Telluride.

  5. Smuggler's Union - Super cozy and cute spot! The veggie burger and sweet potato fries are soooo good!

  6. La Cocina de La Luz - Marked vegan options that are so good! Also the only place for vegan ice cream and fresh pressed juice in Telluride!

  7. Floradora Saloon - Super cute western-style saloon with a ton of vegan options on the menu! They also do brunch and accommodated me but subbing out eggs for tofu on dishes to make them vegan!

  8. 221 South Oak - This is defintely a little more on the pricy side if you are looking for a nice dinner - lots of vegan options as they have a whole separate vegetarian menu! We had a vegan squash cheesecake for dessert too that was awesome!

Coffee:

  1. Phoenix Bean - I spent way too much time here. Best coffee in Telluride and a super cute and cozy atmosphere. This spot is also a bar where you can get a vegan flatliner (Telluride's signature drink) - just ask for no Bailey's and a splash of non-dairy milk when you order! Live music Thursday - Saturday nights here too!

  2. High Alpine Coffee - Good coffee but not a lot of seating - located in the back of the Nook Bookstore its definitely a cute spot!

  3. Coffee Cowboy - I love their coffee as well! They are currently located in a little truck but are supposed to be moving into a building spring of 2022!

  4. Butcher and the Baker - Another cute space with coffee, cocktails, and good food! I like the spicy chai latte - best chai in Telluride!

Bars (nightlife):

  1. Poachers - Super divey local bar in Mountain Village - fun at night and a good place for apres ski!

  2. O'Bannons - Telluride's divey bar. Pool, Foosball and other games plus a DJ on weekend nights. Closest thing you'll get to a club in the Telluride area.

  3. Sheridan - Another fun bar with pool and games that stays open late.

Bars (cocktails):

  1. Telluride Distillery - I love love love this bar. It's located up in Mountain Village and isn't open super late but has awesome drinks! Its super cozy and definitely a good spot for apres ski or a drink before dinner. They make all their liquor and ginger beer in house so their moscow mules are incredible! Also one of my favorite bloody mary's in Telluride!

  2. Timber Room - Ty and I love this bar for drinks before a nice dinner. It's located in the Madeline hotel and is a little pricy but has a great atmosphere and really kind staff! The mulled wine is my favorite drink on the menu!

  3. Liberty - This is a cool bar/ sometimes club in Telluride. They have comfy couches and all so its a nice place to chill. They also have a DJ a few nights a week!

  4. Gorrano Ranch - This is the BEST place for a ski break. Located off of lift 4 - just ski down Village Bypass or Misty Maiden to get there. Super fun on a nice day with live music and really good bloody mary's!

  5. Tracks Cafe and Bar - Another good place to grab a drink during or after skiing - its located in the middle of Mountain Village and has good margaritas!

To Do:

  1. Ski (duh) - Basically what most people are here for - my favorite lift was 5 because there are a lot of fun blues off of it! Lift 10 is awesome for beginners with some great long green runs. Definitely head up to See Forever as well because the views are great.

  2. Cross Country Ski - I really enjoyed doing this as its pretty much a full body workout. You can rent cross country skis at the Telluride Nordic Center at the end of town for around $30 for the day. There are some places around there to start off and practice. You can take the skis down to the other end of town where there are nordic trails that are pretty flat. If you have a car, take the skis up to Trout Lake past Mountain Village for an incredible loop with great views and a couple more hills and challenges. There are also some old train tracks up there that are super cool to see.

  3. Hike - Jud Wiebe trail is located right outside of Telluride and you can actually see it from the gondola. This one is pretty tough but its nice that you don't have to drive anywhere to do it! Download the AllTrails app to see even more of the hiking in the area!

  4. Yoga - Telluride has a ton of yoga studios and a little post ski/ hiking yoga sesh always feels soooo good! I taught at Mangala which is the only hot studio in town. Telluride Yoga Center also is a great space with great teachers!

  5. Hot Springs - Drive about an hour out of town and you'll find the Orvis Hot Springs located right outside of Ridgeway. This area has a ton of natural hot springs but these were my favorites. There are lots of different pools to try and the setting is gorgeous.

  6. Mountain Gate Tea - This is a cool place with a lot of art and tea. Go for a tea ceremony and you'll learn a lot!

Spas/ Wellness:

  1. Studio G - Best deal on any kind of spa services in Telluride.

  2. Breathe Spa - Located up in Mountain Village this is a smaller spa with a more holistic approach to wellness. I went here for Reiki which was a super cool experience. The owner is so sweet too.

Shop:

  1. Telluride Togglery - Probably my favorite store in Telluride they have so many cute clothes and accessories. Best place to shop!

  2. Ethos - Cool store with lots of alternative wellness products and interesting things.

  3. Between the Covers - The bookstore of Telluride! They have a good book selection and a super cute space.

Short Trips:

Mesa Verde National Park - This National Park is located about 1.5 - 2 hours outside of Telluride. The hikes are absolutely beautiful and it has one of the largest and oldest ruins from cave dwelling communities in North America.

Durango - This ski town is about two hours away from Telluride. Its super cute and has a little bit more of a real downtown that Telluride. There are a ton of bars, restaurants and stores here! We loved Ska Brewing - amazing Tempeh sandwich! Durango Coffee Company has fantastic coffee and East by Southwest was really good for sushi!

Moab and Arches National Park - Only like a 2.5 hour drive from Telluride! Arches is one of the coolest parks I've ever visited! We went during off season and it really wasn't terribly cold and we had the park almost totally to ourselves which was awesome! Also looked absolutely incredible in the snow.
